Description:
This is an 8 hour course required by New York State as the first step in obtaining a security guard registration card from the New York State Department of State. The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard. The passing of an examination is required for successful completion of this course. Students will receive a certificate of completion to apply for the NYS Un-armed Security Guard License.

Enabling Objectives:
- Demonstrate verbally what is the role of the security guard
- Demonstrate what you would do in an emergency situation (Fire, power outage, medical emergency, etc.)
- Demonstrate clear communications between you and the public and between you and the media, what to say and what not to say
- Demonstrate access control using a lock and key, a combination lock and log book entry
- Demonstrate the difference between ethical behavior and non-ethical behavior
Equipment Requirements:
- State, Local or Federal ID required for verification (ex; drivers license)
- Wear appropriate clothing (Nothing of bad taste such as vulgar words/graphics on clothing, no torn/ripped clothing)
NOTE: The passing of an examination is required for successful completion of this course.
